Professorial Lecture Series: Melbourne, 4 July

The Professorial Lecture Series is now in its second year, arising from the review of the Academic Promotions Policy and Procedures. The series is designed to provide our university community with an opportunity to celebrate and acknowledge those promoted to the role of Professor. 

The hybrid event will be held on Thursday 4 July at the ACU Melbourne Campus and celebrate the success of Professor Stuart Cormack and Professor David Opar.  

Join us to hear our newest professors speak about their impactful work being undertaken in teaching, research and service, with the opportunity to ask each presenter questions. All staff are welcome and encouraged to attend these events either in person at our Melbourne campus or online via MS Teams. The details of the event is listed below. 

Event details:
Thursday 4 July 2024, 10am. Morning tea will be offered from 11am.

Hybrid locations:

Virtually: via MS Teams.

Presenter bios

Professor Stuart Cormack

Professor Stuart Cormack will be presenting ”Well… who would have predicted that?” 
Professor Stuart Cormack has been involved in high performance sport as a practitioner and researcher for more than 25 years. His career has spanned Olympic-level sport through work at the Australian Institute of Sport and professional sport via roles at multiple Australian Football League clubs. Dr Cormack has published numerous papers and book chapters in a variety of areas related to athlete performance, with a particular focus on load and fatigue. As part of his role at ACU, Professor Cormack is the Deputy Director and Performance lead of the Sports Performance, Recovery, Injury and New Technologies (SPRINT) Research Centre. In addition, Professor Cormack regularly provides consultancy to a range of national and international sporting programs.  

Professor David Opar

Professor David Opar will be sharing some of the lessons learnt across his career so far. 
Associate Professor Opar is the Director of the Sports Performance, Recovery, Injury and New Technologies (SPRINT) Research Centre. In addition, Professor Opar is also the Injury Research Program Lead for SPRINT. The Injury Research Program in SPRINT is a world leader in hamstring injury research, conducting projects that cover many exercise science disciplines. These projects encompass lab-based research all the way through to applied and field-based work. Professor Opar and his team are in close consultation with professional sporting codes both nationally and internationally to deliver evidence-based prevention and treatment strategies for their athlete group.
